We focus on designing and developing comprehensive construction document plan sets for high-end residential projects across South Florida, working on luxury properties such as multi-acre estate homes, waterfront estates, country club communities, horse farm properties, and other upscale residences.

Job Description:

At M.Hudson Design, we are offering an exciting opportunity for a Senior Landscape Architect to essentially run your own business within our established, well-supported framework. As a Senior Landscape Architect, you’ll have the autonomy to manage and sell an unlimited number of projects based on your team’s capacity and your leadership. All the benefits of entrepreneurial freedom, without the hassle of running your own business, are yours.

You will receive project leads from M.Hudson Design’s marketing campaigns, as well as through your own engagement within the community and the development of personal contacts and relationships. As the lead designer and primary salesperson on each project, you will have the full support of a skilled team to assist with client communications, scheduling, and other administrative tasks.

This is a leadership role where you will have the opportunity to lead your own five-person design team, which includes yourself, a Junior Designer / Landscape Architect, two Senior Drafting Professionals, and one Junior Drafting Professional. Additionally, you will have access to an in-house photorealistic 3D rendering team to produce stunning visuals and high-quality graphics that bring your designs to life.

With a highly skilled and dedicated drafting team, you will no longer need to work in AutoCAD or draft landscape plans. Instead, you will focus on sales, front-end design, and leading your team to success. You will be able to concentrate on what you do best—design and leadership—while the drafting and technical work is handled by your dedicated professionals.

Our proprietary M.Hudson Design process is built on the fundamentals of landscape architecture combined with cutting-edge technologies. You will begin every project with a comprehensive set of base plans, including site inventory. Our unique LiDAR scan process provides high-definition, remote access to detailed property information, ensuring accurate plans and reducing costly mistakes during later design phases. This allows you and your clients to review properties with precision, making the entire design process more efficient and accurate.

As part of our team, you will receive complete training on our innovative design process, enabling you to focus your time and energy on creating exceptional designs without worrying about drafting or administrative tasks. You will have the autonomy to bring your unique creativity and design talents to every project, ensuring that your signature is reflected in the work we do.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Landscape Architect at M.Hudson Design, you will play a critical role in driving the success of our design projects, from sales and client management to leading a talented design team. Your expertise will shape both the design process and the client experience. Below are the key responsibilities for this role:

  • Direct Sales & Client Interaction: Meet with clients onsite to understand their needs and create tailored sales quotes for services. Build strong client relationships, ensuring they feel confident in your ability to bring their vision to life.
  • Meeting Sales Targets: Achieve monthly and annual sales targets by effectively managing leads, closing new business, and maintaining ongoing client relationships to ensure repeat business.
  • Client Onboarding & Team Coordination: Onboard new clients and seamlessly connect them with your design team. Ensure that each client is introduced to the right team members to begin the design process with clarity and confidence.
  • Leading a Design Team: Oversee your five-person design team, which includes a Junior Designer, Senior Drafting Professionals, and Junior Drafting Professionals. Provide leadership and guidance to ensure smooth collaboration and effective project execution.
  • Project Delivery Management: Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget, monitoring progress and making adjustments as needed to keep everything on track.
  • Transforming Concepts into Detailed Plans: Take design sketches and concepts and develop them into detailed technical drawings and construction documents, ensuring that every design element is clear and actionable.
  • Managing Presentation Graphics: Oversee the development of high-quality presentation graphics, including 2D color-rendered plans and 3D graphics and videos, to effectively communicate the design vision to clients.
  • Client Communication: Maintain clear and timely communication with clients throughout the project to ensure progress is on track and their expectations are met.
  • Presenting Designs to Clients: Lead online design presentations with clients, presenting plans and addressing feedback to move the project forward.
  • Active Listening & Client Engagement: Exhibit excellent listening skills by asking the right questions to understand client needs and desires, ensuring that designs truly reflect their vision while maintaining feasibility and integrity.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that all designs and drawings produced by your team are accurate and comply with local codes and regulations, meeting the highest standards set by the firm and the design team.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required:
  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in Landscape Architecture
  • Active Florida landscape architecture license
  • Residential landscape design sale experience
  • Experience leading a design and/or drafting team
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and LandFX
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator
  • Proficiency in Sketchup & Lumion or other 3D modeling software
  • Extensive knowledge of Florida planting materials
  • Knowledge of local hardscape materials.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong understanding of landscape architecture principles and residential design.
  • Ability to lead others and meet project deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills
Preferred:
  • Owning or operating a small business
  • Budgeting and cash flow management experience
  • Leadership and management training and skills

 

Experience Requirements:

  • 5+ Years experience in residential landscape architecture; including landscape, hardscape, irrigation, lighting and drainage design.
  • Experience in residential landscape architecture sales
  • Experience leading a design and/or drafting team

Compensation & Benefits: Senior Landscape Architect

  • Base Salary: $90 -110k based on experience
  • Annual inflation base salary increase of 3% minimum
  • Annual hourly rate increase based on annual performance review
  • Annual Performance Bonus: Up to $50k
