A Classic Tropical Retreat

Our clients partnered with M.Hudson Design to bring timeless sophistication to their newly built coastal residence. From the outset, the vision was clear: to create a luxurious home and landscape that reflect the elegance of British West Indies architecture, defined by symmetry, proportion, and an inviting tropical sensibility.
Working in collaboration with the project architect from the earliest stages, our team developed a cohesive plan that seamlessly merges architecture and landscape. The result is an exterior environment that enhances the home’s curb appeal while embodying the refined character and livable warmth of its architectural style.
Privacy, Rhythm, and Reveal
The approach to the residence was designed to unfold as an experience. A meandering driveway introduces an intentional sense of mystery, guiding guests through a layered composition of sea grapes, mature coconut palms, and structured hedging.
The home remains partially concealed from the street, revealed gradually as one moves through the gates and into the central motor court.
Throughout the property, proportion and balance guided every decision. Repetition of coconut palms connects the front and back gardens, creating a rhythmic canopy and establishing a cohesive tropical identity across the entire property.
Structure and Texture in Harmony
The motor court and driveway were crafted in Tabby concrete, a high-end material recognized for its subtle shell aggregate and coastal texture. To soften the generous expanse and maintain visual balance, artificial turf inlays were integrated into the layout—introducing clean geometry and a touch of organic contrast.
Our collaboration with the project architect ensured every line, edge, and proportion felt purposeful. The result is a grand, yet grounded, arrival experience—where design precision meets timeless character.
A Vision Drawn Toward the Water
The property’s long, linear lot offered both opportunity and challenge. To connect the residence to its water frontage, we designed a pool that subtly narrows toward the horizon, creating a visual illusion that draws the eye outward and enhances the sense of depth.
Every detail supports this visual flow—from the edge-level spa, which preserves unobstructed views, to the manicured Zoysia lawn that extends seamlessly to the dock. The effect is tranquil and sophisticated—a modern interpretation of classic tropical living.
Classic Comfort, Modern Function
In collaboration with the architect, we refined a series of outdoor living spaces that merge comfort with architectural continuity. A custom-designed pergola defines the rear terrace, featuring an operable louvered roof for adaptable shade and an integrated wall designed for entertainment and planting.
This structure anchors the outdoor experience—an elegant, livable retreat that feels both connected and complete. From the pergola to the pool to the water beyond, every line and transition was considered for balance, proportion, and flow.
The Art of Connection
This residence stands apart for its sense of rhythm and reveal—a design language that invites exploration while maintaining cohesion. The pool, with its sculptural geometry and seamless connection to the water, serves as the project’s centerpiece.
Echoes of the front entry’s water feature reappear in the rear landscape, uniting both sides of the home through subtle repetition and reflective calm. Each gesture was intentional, ensuring that the property’s journey—from approach to waterfront—feels effortlessly connected.
