The Golfview Retreat

Transitional Elegance by M.Hudson Design

Project Overview

Transitional Design Framed by Fairway Views

Overlooking a serene golf course in Palm Beach County, this residence underwent a complete architectural and landscape transformation. The homeowner, relocating from California, rebuilt the home down to the studs and envisioned a space that felt refined, orderly, and quietly tropical.

M Hudson Design was brought in to unify architecture and landscape through a transitional design approach structured yet inviting, layered yet restrained. The result is a property defined by balance, clarity, and seamless visual connection to its surroundings.

Design Approach

Landscape Design Elements

Clarity, Balance, and Subtle Luxury

Working in tandem with the home’s remodel, M Hudson Design reimagined every major exterior element—the driveway, pool deck, walkways, and outdoor living areas—to echo the home’s clean lines and fairway views.

Porcelain pavers were chosen for both the driveway and pool deck, bringing a refined consistency from front to back. The courtyard entry was softened with planters and layered greenery, guiding guests toward a recessed front door and establishing rhythm along the approach.

In the rear, the team opened the property to the landscape beyond, removing fencing to frame views of the golf course and waterway. A new fire pit terrace and outdoor bar extend the living space outward, creating a series of connected destinations for entertaining, exercise, and relaxation.

Signature Features

Soft Layers and Framed Views

The planting design introduces a deliberate interplay between structure and softness. Along the property lines, magnolias and hollies replace traditional hedging, creating privacy with variation and movement. In the rear garden, large canopy trees frame the panoramic view, adding height and shade while drawing the eye outward toward the horizon.

Closer to the home, tropical accents and manicured groundcovers bring quiet texture without overpowering the architecture. Every planting layer reinforces the home’s geometry, creating an atmosphere of calm order and natural rhythm.

Where Structure Meets Serenity

The backyard serves as the true heart of the property—an open-air extension of the home designed around sunlight, view, and proportion. The porcelain pool deck merges effortlessly with the patio, leading to a destination fire pit positioned to capture evening sunsets across the fairway. The owner’s exercise room overlooks this same view, blending the home’s interior experience with its surrounding landscape. What was once a confined yard is now an inviting, connected series of spaces that celebrate openness and quiet luxury.

Timeless Materials, Effortless Function

Porcelain surfaces unify the property, setting a consistent architectural tone. Layered magnolias and hollies provide privacy while maintaining visual depth, and large canopy trees bring scale and balance to the rear elevation. The fire pit terrace adds both functionality and focus, grounding the view with a subtle sense of destination.

Each element was considered for its purpose, forming a landscape that is elegant, enduring, and distinctly at home in its setting.
